HOUSING FOOTPRINT at the 10th Architectural Biennale in Rotterdam

The Chair participated in an exhibition in collaboration with architect Philippe Rizzotti and the Pavillon de l'Arsenal.

The Chair of Sustainable Construction, architect Philippe Rizzotti and the Pavillon de l'Arsenal have been selected to participate in the 10th International Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam. The synthesis of the research project Housing Footprint, presented from October 21, 2021 to February 27, 2022 at the Pavillon de l'Arsenal in Paris, is exhibited along with the carbon footprint of the botanical greenhouses of the Jardin des Sciences of Besançon, currently under construction.

The exhibition, “Housing Footprint”, analyzes experimental constructions built between 1920 and 2020 that reflect the development of lightweight construction in industrialized countries.

This study conducted on thirty or so international projects reveals the potential and diversity of building systems that have been developed. It attests of the capacity of architects to adapt to the techniques and expectations of their time. Each exploration is reread in its historical context through archives, films, and scale models that reflect approaches, techniques, and ways of inhabiting a home.

The Chair of Sustainable Construction helped to create an inventory that reveals correspondences and shared qualities, to enable the quantifying of constructions, comparing of materials, analyzing of assemblies, and the classifying of all or part to bring about approaches that could be adapted in the future.
